6.6 (i) Ashford Health and Wellbeing Priorities for 2016/17 One Year On
7.In April 2016 the smoking prevalence in Ashford was reported at26.4% 5.3% higher than the Kent average. To address thisconcern a multi-agency Task and Finish group was establishedto deliver targeted initiatives additional to those delivered as partof the Kent Tobacco Control strategy to further reduce smokingrates in Ashford. New data available now shows that Ashford’ssmoking prevalence has reduced by 9% to 17.4%. This is nowonly 2.2% above the Kent average. It is estimated there is 8500fewer smokers in the Ashford area.A report updating the progress on the Stop Smoking Action Planis attached showing how the activities that have contributed tosmoking prevalence although cannot be considered to be adirect result of the activities. It is expected that the longer termimpact of the activities may be realized in future prevalencefigures.
 (a) Reducing Smoking Prevalence Update
The Healthy Weight Task and Finish group has delivered thenreviewed outcomes of the Action Plan implemented for 2016/17.Promotion of some of the existing programmes (such as VeryBrief Information training and Healthy Weight programmes inschools) have been challenging indicating that the offer could berevised and tailored to local need to become a more attractiveresource. Campaign and health promotion resources have beenwidely disseminated but tangible outcomes on healthy weight asa result of this work are hard to evidence. The launch of the OneYou shop promoting Healthy Weight Stop Smoking and otherlifestyle support services has proved to be popular with theAshford residents particularly as a resource to receiveinformation advice and regular weigh in sessions. To date 941people have accessed the One You shop in Ashford and 300interventions on Healthy Weight have been delivered. The Task and Finish Group would welcome continuing this workto raise the profile of the One You shop and support thedevelopment of additional healthy lifestyle services to meet thepublic needs. Plans for engagement groups in areas of highestobesity prevalence are also considered valuable to identify thespecific attitudes behaviours and motivators of local people tohelp shape provision for the future.
